The Challenge
NORR Consultancy, the international construction consultancy practice, required the fit-out of a 500m², 1st floor office at Skypark within Glasgow city centre. The works comprised the mechanical, electrical and IT installations including formation of a new comms room, formation of office space, meeting rooms, boardroom, reception, staff kitchen and breakout areas. With a significant amount of manufactured joinery works, the design continued to be developed and was ongoing throughout the project.
Due to expiry of their existing lease, it was necessary to have a phased programme with the general office space being made available – with all services and IT commissioned – to allow NORR staff to occupy after 5 weeks, whilst the remaining works progressed for a further 4 weeks. All other floors within the building were fully occupied working environments raising the particular challenges in terms of interface and noise.
The Solution
GMACK carefully planned the works and progressed in a sequence to ensure earliest access for the Client’s office furniture installation and IT Commissioning in advance of the relocation.
Daily close liaison and Design Workshops with NORR allowed the design to continue for the manufactured elements This allowed newly designed elements to be progressed immediately into manufacture.
To meet the landlord and client restrictions, material and debris movements were rigorously timetabled of early mornings, late evenings and works progressing regularly over weekends.
The Result
Staff were relocated to the new office in the phased manner agreed and overall completion was achieved within the 9 week period.
